Welcome to The Engineering Oasis!

Welcome to The Engineering Oasis, a blog dedicated to providing insights and sharing knowledge about the world of engineering. This blog is for engineers of all experience levels and engineering students alike. Our goal is to provide a platform that shares experiences and explores the various facets of the engineering field.

Who We Are

My name is Giovani Olivo, I am the creator and writer of this website and blog. I am an independent publisher with a passion for engineering and the impact it has and continues to have on the world. I have a Bachelor of Robotics and Mechatronic Systems Engineering with a Concentration in Electrical Engineering (BRMSE w/EE) degree from the University of Detroit Mercy. I am currently working contract as a Vehicle Dynamics Engineer at Stellantis on behalf of Technology Resource Group (TRG).

What We Will Cover

Through this blog, we aim to cover a wide range of engineering topics, including mechanical, electrical, civil, software, and more. We will share insights on the latest trends and developments in the field, as well as provide practical tips and advice for engineers at all levels. Our focus will be on showcasing the creativity, innovation, and impact of engineering in our daily lives.

The main areas that will be covered are:

  • Engineering principles and concepts, including theoretical knowledge and practical applications.
  • Innovations in engineering, including new products, technologies, and methodologies.
  • Case studies and real-world examples of engineering projects, including their design, implementation, and impact.
  • Tools and techniques used in engineering, including software, hardware, and testing methods.
  • Career advice for engineers, including tips on job hunting, networking, and professional development.
  • Entrepreneurship in engineering, including starting and running an engineering business.
  • Diversity and inclusion in engineering, including efforts to increase representation and equity in the field.
  • Environmental sustainability and engineering, including green engineering practices and sustainable design.
  • History and philosophy of engineering, including the evolution of engineering principles and the role of engineering in society.

The plan is to have weekly posts about revolving topics. Then, gradually increase the frequency of posts while introducing more content, tools, and subjects. I am a robotics enthusiast at heart, so you can expect to see a higher percentage of posts related to what I learned while earning my degree. Also, since I am starting a new job as a Vehicle Dynamics Engineer, there will be a focus on the fundamentals of vehicle dynamics, tutorials for solving problems, and modeling with programming platforms.

Some other areas I am interested in covering are:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI language models, text-to-image diffusion models, etc.)
  • Ethics and Morals
  • Finances and Economics
  • Productivity
  • Many more (etc.)

I believe these are important for engineers at any stage of their career to be aware of. I for one didn't learn much of anything about finances throughout my degree's curriculum until my senior year! These topics deserve more time and attention as engineers are seldom to be taught about them in depth.

Why Engineering Matters

So, I have mentioned all of these great things I want to talk about and post on this blog, but why do they matter? Well, engineering is one of the most important and influential fields in the world today. It touches almost every aspect of our lives, from the cars we drive to the smartphones we use. Engineering has enabled us to achieve remarkable feats, such as putting humans on the moon and creating life-saving medical technologies. Through this blog, we hope to inspire more people to pursue engineering careers and to showcase the amazing things that engineers are capable of achieving. Engineering goes way back before modern times. With the rapid advancements of technology and increasing understanding of engineering concepts, humanity is continuously going beyond the limits of what is possible. It is truly a great time to be alive and witness the developments of the future.

Quality of Life (Updates)

As time goes on and the blog grows, new pages, resources, and features will be added. To keep things fresh, I would like to add:

  • Books I am reading, have read, and would like to read.
  • Resources and tools I use or that may be useful.
  • My setup (devices and tech that I use).
  • Text to speech publishing.
  • Miscellaneous (items I think of at a later time).
